My thoughts on the 'serial' podcast
Serial is an investigative journalism podcast hosted by Sarah Koenig. Serial hit #1 on iTunes prior to its debut and stayed there for several weeks. This podcast is a new experience for me. I've never listened to any suspense podcasts before. I am very fond of suspenseful books and TV series, and I have watched all of "Sherlock", but the charm of "serial" is completely different. Before this, I was dismissive of suspense podcasts, but after I listened to the podcast, I realized that I was wrong.
I was fascinated and surprised about how interesting this Podcast and episode is. The Podcast is always one way I like to get information or story. One reason is that the Podcast always uses storytelling to show us an exciting and easy-to-understand story. I am always curious about what will happen next when I listen to podcasts. Another reason is podcasts can fulfill my spare time. For example, when I walked back home or washed dishes after dinner. I am especially interested in investigative journalism via Podcast since it is more narrative and grasps my curiosity. Besides, when telling a story without images or videos, which is Podcast, it is more helpful for audiences to focus on the stories themselves rather than those pictures or distractors.
Reading is another good way of showing stories because it has more visual aids, such as images, which can give more story details. On the other hand, reading needs a lot of attention and concentration. However, for listening to a text, although it has less information in terms of visual aids, it is easier to concentrate and become interested in the story. I prefer listening to the Podcast to reading the story because I can use my spare time to listen, and easy to focus on the story.
I don't think I can remember things from a certain day. When I saw that Koenig asked some people to ask if they remembered what happened six weeks ago, when I heard this, I couldn't help but think about what happened six weeks ago. I was surprised to find that I couldn't remember it at all, and only one person in the experiment remembered what happened six weeks ago. This made me a little puzzled, if most people can't remember what happened six weeks ago, how can the words of those witnesses prove true or false. When the podcast aired, it was already 15 years after the incident, and I put a question mark on the accuracy of the statements of these witnesses.
When I realized that human memory is not as strong as I imagined, I not only thought about how much this podcast was a blow to the victim's family. Fifteen years later, Hae Min Lee's family had already buried their pain in their hearts, but as this podcast became more and more popular, the pain in their hearts was dug out with a shovel. It must be excruciating when this kind of pain floods their hearts.
